AND ON TIME

This project began when Red Leaf Enviro were contacted by Bedford Borough Council and asked to provide the design, fabrication and installation of replacement storage bays in one of their waste management warehouses.

They were keen to stay within a strict budget and Red Leaf Enviro worked with them to create a design that would meet both their budget and specification, this included reusing a number of the precast concrete L blocks already in situ within the warehouse, in order to save on the material costs of the project.

The original back panels had been placed onto tarmac by the previous contractor on the project which had caused some concerns with the current storage bays. The unlevel tarmac caused the freestanding, unsecured precast L-blocks to move and shift, which in turn caused material to fall between gaps when waste was being moved.

At the commencement of the project, the Red Leaf Enviro team worked to diligently and carefully remove the in situ concrete panels, storing them on site ready for re-installation. To combat the lack of foundations of the first install, a concrete pad was poured along the back wall of the warehouse which would provide a strong and level surface for the back wall of the new bays.

Once this concrete had cured, the old panels on site were reinstalled along the back wall, this time being fitted securely to the new concrete pad to ensure movement would no longer occur. Once the back wall of the new bays had been secured firmly in place, the team worked to install the new sides to the storage bays, using new precast concrete panels. Creating a secure storage area with three bays.

The work was completed in only a few days and provided Bedford Borough Council with storage bays that were safer, more secure and better laid out for more efficient working procedures.
